Well-doing

“Thinking and acting such that, on average, the causal consequences result in a net increase in the sum total of the well-being of all humans and animals that are alive today or will live in the future.” (Lieder, Prentice, & Corwin-Renner, 2022, p. 2).

At WELD Research Lab, we recognize how well being and well-doing are powerfully related concepts. Here are some of the ways the WELD community build wellness through doing.

  • Volunteering is donating one's time to a good cause. Such acts of well-doing have been shown to have a positive impact on well-being of volunteers beyond the beneficial impacts on society.

  • One of the primary objectives of WELD Research Lab is to work towards positive cultural and insititutional changes around mental health and diversity. We take a grassroots approach and make change through our workshops, sharing our research, and acts of service.

  • Meta-changemeaking is defined as cultivating people's capacity and motivation to bring about positive change in the world (changemaking) or (indirectly) enabling others to do so.

  • Supporting others in the pursuit of their goals.
